Cowgirl Hailey at five years old

The diagnosis hit us hard. We asked the doctor what exactly Spinal Muscular Atrophy was- what does this mean?
According to the doctor, it meant that the neurons were dying off. If she ever walked, it'd only be briefly. She'd be in a wheelchair and wouldn't live to see 20.
What a horrible day that was. Filled with anguish and confusion. My incredibly sweet and smart, 18 month old daughter wiped tears from my eyes. Not understanding that the doctor had just given her a death sentance. Looking back to that day I still cry.
I was completely confused, heartbroken, and I felt lost. I couldn't understand why this was happening to us. Looking back into my daughter's car seat on the way home, and seeing her warm smiling face- I just kept hearing what the doctor said '...wouldn't live to see 20...'

Lil' Hailey with her Dad- waving solid gold flags in Praise. Notice how they look transparent? |
Some told me God did this to Hailey. Some said that may be this was God's Will for her. I'm sure you've heard the same misguided lies by well meaning Christians. Well, bless God- I found out none of it was true!
Dara from church had already had a vision of Hailey dancing and praising God. I couldn't understand how this vision could be so, after what the doctor said. Well, praise God- He's in control! And praise God Jesus already paid the price for our healing. It's our gift from him. If we don't know He has it for us, how are we ever going to receive it? If we don't receive the promises God has for us, whose fault is it?
I went to another friend from church, Janet. She was miraculously healed of MS over 25 years ago. If anyone new something about divine healing, it must be her. She lent me some wonderful material about divine healing. I've listed my favorites on the 'Resources' page. The seed had been planted. I wanted to know more about this divine healing, and where sickness and disease came from. Boy, did I find out! Be sure to check out the Myth vs. Truth page!

Hailey is getting stronger every day, not weaker! She just turned 5, and is four foot, and 50 pounds-- the size of an average 7 year old!! This is unheard of for a kid with SMA ;) They're normally very stunted and weak. |
Dara told me that sometimes Satan sees something special in a child and will try to take them out when they're little. I see that something special in Hailey. She's already laying hands and praying- before she was even three! She laid her little hands on her Daddy's head and simply prayed 'Thank you Lord for healing Daddy, Amen!' And my husband's headache was gone!
Satan picked on the wrong family. We're going to tell the whole world about what Jesus bought for us at the cross!
UPDATE 10/07:
In January of 2007, we had the elders of two church's come over to pray for Hailey. Something God told me, is that everyone needs to know what the doctors said about Hailey.
I realized then, that I had been trying to hide that Hailey couldn't walk. I hated the 'pity' stares, and I felt ashamed. Not of my daughter of course, but I felt that I was somehow a horrible Mom for passing on this gene to my daughter. It's interesting how satan can twist thoughts.
God told me that everyone needed to know Hailey couldn't walk, that way when she was up and running, so many people would see the miracle-- not just our church, family and friends. It'll bring more Glory to Him-- which He certainly deserves!
We have gone through two seperate trips of Hailey being life-flighted to Children's Hospital in Seattle. The first time, she was two. This last time she was four. Both times were very hard on our whole family, but God has shown Himself faithful. This last time He did something very interesting.
We met up with our favorite Nurse, Jen. We met her on our first trip up to Children's and became fast friends. She and another nurse, Bradie wrote a book together called One Step at a Time . It's about how to navigate the hospital system.

While we were up there this last time, nurse Jen asked if we'd help her make a short video to help promote and sell this book in hospitals across the country. I laughed, because what God told me just a few months earlier sprang into mind. God said He wanted us to tell everyone Hailey's story. What better way?
Scott Turner (of www.ScottTurnerPhotography.com) is an amazing photographer and writer. He's also an amazing Christian. He, along with Nurse Jen did an amazing job telling Hailey's story. We'd love for you to take a look if you get a chance- www.JourneyTowardHealing.com
